Get the Bridget Jones apartment look

If you’ve seen the film “Bridget Jones’s Baby” then you’ll know that a lot of the key action takes place in her flat in Borough Market.

As ever, with my interior design hat on, I looked at the way it was styled with an eagle eye.

An eclectic interior

And in fact, it’s a charming flat with a lot of appeal – very welcoming and comforting – with an eclectic mix of loved furniture and pieces alongside some contemporary items.

The whole look centres around stripped floorboards, junk shop finds, shabby chic, open bookshelves used as dividers, neutral colours and a non-fitted kitchen.

If you have seen the film and liked the look of Bridget’s pad, then here are my tips on how to get the look.

Colours

The flat has a very neutral colour scheme, which gives a broad canvas on which to place different shades.

Skirting boards, walls and ceilings are painted in very subtly contrasting shades, which you might not immediately notice but which work well. In the image below you can see how Farrow & Ball have done it.

If you need ideas for neutral colour schemes, then I’d recommend you head over to the Farrow & Ball website where they have many different rooms set up in shades of grey, cream and ivory. Perfect for inspiration.

Décor

On one wall, Bridget has a scattering of metal Amish stars, in keeping with the shabby chic look of the apartment. You can find very similar stars (like the ones below)  available from Tramps.

Furnishings

Large squashy sofas are a must for lounging around on, watching chick flicks, having late night conversations with friends over Sauvignon Blanc and of course, writing the latest entry into a diary.

Ikea do some very good sofas like the one pictured here,  as do Loaf (see Freddie sofa in main image at top) – certainly worth a look.

Entertaining

In Bridget’s flat, her kitchen table fits in with the non-fitted style. This table featured above is the “Wiltshire” from the Cotswold Company. It is absolutely in keeping with the Bridget Jones look and is perfect for entertaining as well as somewhere to spread out and tackle paperwork.
